The Long Road South

We got back to Sydney late on Sunday night, and crashed and Jess and Luc's again (thanks guys!), before leaving at 6am on Monday for the long drive to Bendigo, Victoria - our goods were with the removalists and we needed to be in Bendigo by Tuesday to meet our stuff and put it into the shipping container.  Unfortunately for us (although fortunately for the farmers), there was some flooding in southern NSW and northern Victoria which made the trip a little more interesting.

The canola fields were in bloom - very pretty.

We passed the bridge at Tarcutta, halfway between Sydney and Bendigo - the water was just under the highway.  Radio reports said they closed it later.  We were most worried about the Wangaratta area though, which was partially evacuated - we needed to head west from just south of Wangaratta to make it to Bendigo from the Hume Highway.

We passed over the Murray River into Victoria at around 1pm, to see trees half underwater.  The river was looking huge.

This is taken from the Hume Highway, north of Wangaratta - we started getting worried here.  The river had turned into a lake for more than a kilometer next to the road.  The road we needed to take (Violet Town) was flooded, so we stayed on the freeway and swung around to come into Bendigo from the south, arriving at around 4pm with no issues.

After rushing all of the way to Bendigo to meet our stuff, the removals company called at 6:30pm Monday to say that they wouldn't be able to deliver it on Tuesday after all - they wouldn't be able to get out to Bendigo before Thursday.  I argued on the phone with them - we organised our entire two weeks around the dates that they gave us, rushed back from the Sunshine Coast and down to Bendigo, and they wanted to just put it off by two days?  They hung up and called back this morning at 6:40am (!?), waking me up to tell me that they still couldn't come - still the same answer from me.

Luckily for them, at 11:30am they just called to say that they're on their way and they'll be here in an hour and a half.  Now to see if they can actually navigate their way here to the property here...
