Covert garbage activities and an empty house

After a crazy few days of cleaning and throwing things out, yesterday saw us with a large stack of ready-to-move boxes, and a large pile of rubbish.  The only problem is, our local council issues residents with half-size wheelie bins (like the yellow one in the picture) for general rubbish, in what I can only assume is a push to encourage recycling.  This is fine most of the time, but when you're moving house, it's a recipe for disaster.  We filled up our bin, plus the one belonging to the vacant unit above us, and we still had more to throw out.  Our hand was forced - we had to resort to covert use of neighbourhood bins.  Stephen did some initial scouting, and reported that there were three full-size bins about 5 houses up, and I found a garbage skip about 2 minutes drive away.  We had a couple of aborted attempts when random people walked past, but eventually we got rid of it all with no angry confrontations.  Now to hope that there was nothing identifiable in there...

Last night we headed out to James Squire at King Street Wharf for a few goodbye drinks.  It was great to see everyone, and we especially appreciate people making the trip in the rain.  We weren't so sanguine about it all at 6am when we had to drag our hungover selves out of bed to get ready for the arrival of the removalists at 8am, but after some greasy burgers and chips we're feeling much better :)

This morning, the removalists came and took all of our stuff away, so I'm writing this from the floor of our empty house.  Apart from the burger lunchbreak, we've spent nearly the entire time scrubbing the walls of the house - here's hoping it pays off and we get our full bond back.

From hereon in, the blog (and life) should hopefully get more interesting - less cleaning house, more travel! :)  Tomorrow morning we fly up to the Sunshine Coast to see my family, Sunday night we're back in Sydney and Monday morning we're leaving first thing to drive to Bendigo to meet our stuff on Tuesday.  Then to Melbourne, and on Monday the 13th we fly out for St Petersburg!  Can't wait!
